Unique housing initiatives are the hallmark of Westbrook Development Corporation. More than 20 years after our founding, Westbrook Development Corporation has grown from an extension of a government-funded local housing authority to a widely recognized developer.
Our development portfolio includes, among others, a 100-unit, multistory apartment building, a single-family townhouse community, luxury market-rate condominiums in a turn-of-the-century schoolhouse, and industrial-style lofts in an abandoned riverside mill. WDC’s resume is, indeed, a varied one, encompassing unique housing initiatives—from affordable rental communities for seniors and residents with disabilities to innovative homeownership opportunities for first-time buyers.
Since its creation in 1987, this nonprofit Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) has shown that our experience in acquisition, development, and management—combined with creative financing expertise—results in quality housing opportunities.
Westbrook Development Corporation has clearly shown that our roots—as an offshoot of Westbrook Housing, known for its rental communities for seniors and residents with disabilities and its management of federal subsidized housing programs—provide distinct advantages. Clearly expert at navigating our way through the bureaucratic maze, we have become widely recognized as a statewide leader in affordable housing.
Where WDC originally took on a development role in response to an absence of adequate housing opportunities in one community and in order to supplement shrinking government funding, we are today committed to long-term growth of affordable housing throughout Greater Portland and Southern Maine.
